11 Tips For A Stress-Free Thanksgiving

Williams-Sonoma Best of Thanksgiving Cookbook

As Thanksgiving quickly approaches, it seems impossible to get everything done. As we prepare to entertain family and friends, below are 11 Tips For A Stress-Free Thanksgiving.

Shop early

There is no better way to start planning for the big day than by making a list, and crossing things off. To do so, shopping early is a must! Avoid the hassle and last minute errands by getting everything early from your local stores.

Making the Invitation

Let’s face it; we live in a world where technology is OKAY to use. So use it!

Instead of the old fashion way of calling and mailing in letters or invites, try considering using E-Vite and Punchbowl. I use Punchbowl literally for every event I host. They provide ideas, steps, and it is very user friendly. It keeps track of all of your shopping ideas; it even recommends drinks for the type of event you are hosting. And they have invitation cards for EVERY occasion.

Cooking

So it’s no longer considered rude to ask for help when you’re hosting an event. We are all busy, so asking for help is completely understandable. Unless you are planning a wedding, than there’s a very thin line when it comes to asking for help.  When preparing food, consider the following:

It’s okay to prepare food ahead of time if you can.

It’s okay to accept offers from family and friends to bring side dishes and beverages.

It’s okay to ask and accept help from family and friends to set-up and breakdown.

The Oven

Again, TECHNOLOGY has evolved. You DO NOT NEED to be glued to the stove/oven. Consider using the following:
Slow cooker. I personally like the Hamilton Beach® Stay or Go 7-qt. Oval Slow Cooker. It received 4.9 stars out of 5. It’s very easy to use, and it allows the food to remain warm, sealed, and is ready to go just as described.

Countertop ovens such as the Black and Decker TO1675B Convection Countertop Oven, is another great kitchen appliance to use to prepare small sides. It bakes, broil, toast & keep food warm.

Can it up

Don’t be embarrassed to use can food. It's okay to cook the canned cranberry sauce in the microwave. It is also okay to use canned pineapple slices for your favorite apple pie to cut down time.

Baking

No need to feel embarrassed for purchasing your favorite pie at your local grocery store. Consider stores like Wegmans, Giant, Weis, Walmart, Food Lion, and Safeway if they are available in your area. They are filled with different choices to select from. Edible Arrangements is another great place for desserts, and make great gifts for the hostess!

Dish

Use dishes that are ready to be transferred from the oven to the table.

Dispose that dish

You do not have to use your fine china. This is 2015!!!! Consider using plates that are easy to dispose.

Decorate

If you are not a DIY person, consider visiting AC Moore and Michaels for their ready-made decorations.

Games

Print games ahead of time.  Better Homes and Gardens have great printable games for Thanksgiving.

Take it home

Have those leftover containers ready. No better way to “clean” up after a big feast than to allow your guests to take some of the delicious food home.
